TAOIST
The Taoist philosophy focused on eating simple food instead of delicious food because he believed in “selflessness and few desires.”
CONFUCIAN
The Confucian philosophy includes not eating too much and not talking at meals. According to the cookbook, the Taoist and Confucian philosophy work well together because their advice helps prevent serious diseases such as “cardiac and cerebral disease.”
MOHIST
The Mohist philosophy is also similar to Confucious's philosophy which is to “eliminate unnecessary expenditures.” This again prevents overeating which can lead to several diseases.
BUDDHIST
The Buddhist philosophy is to nourish the five internal organs, and one can nourish these organs through flavoring food with the five flavors and changing the variety of food.
Five Flavors
"HARMONY IS PRECIOUS"
The five flavors are sweet, bitter, salty, sour, and spicy; it was believed that these five flavors would help “maintain good health.” The harmony concept in the Qing Dynasty reminds me of the five food group pyramid that we use in America. It could be inferred that the Qing Dynasty-inspired the food pyramid in America.
